Dr Oz is the MAN! I am not exagerating when I say I love this man and his advice!
When I hit age 40, I was convinced something was wrong with ME, over time I had regained 40 of the 130 pounds that I had lost and was having a terrible time re-losing it. Thankfully, I stumbled upon a regime that worked for me, but I also had the advantage of being able to email Dr. Oz and ask his advice and he introduced me to his friend Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum who inturn gave me great advice and headed me in the direction of healthier aging and sound weight loss over 40. I loved when I read this article from Dr. Oz’s recent program about boosting our metabolism, he’s right. I took his advice and it worked for me, I know it will work for you.

However, there is something that I know that Dr. Oz may not yet! I know, being THE MAN he knows just about everything and is THE go to source for anything medical/human related, but trust me, I know something he doesn’t; #2 of his 3 tips for boosting metabolism is about the benefits of increased fiber and what he says is correct:
2. Why am I hungrier now than ever before?
Answer: After 40 your estrogen levels drop which causes insulin levels to go up and thyroid levels to go down, both of which increase hunger. You wind up eating more and burning fewer calories, which adds to the fat deep inside your belly known as omentum fat.
Solution: Soluble fiber is your best defense against hunger and belly fat. It fills you up fast so you eat less and stay satisfied. At 40 you should consume 25 grams of fiber daily. Consider these excellent sources:
1 bowl of steel-cut oats = 9 grams of fiber
1 cup raspberries = 8 grams of fiber
1 cup brown rice = 8 grams of fiber
Total = 25 grams of fiber
_____
What I KNOW that isn’t in Dr. Oz’s article is that while it is now recommended that we eat 25 grams of fiber a day, that is the MINIMUM amount we should consume. The USDA recommend 30 grams a day, http://www.health.gov/dietaryguidelines/dga2005/document/pdf/DGA2005.pdf while many experts, such as Dr. Mark Hyman, attest that early man consumed up to 100 grams a day.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/fiber-health-the-super-fi_b_594153.html.
I didn’t change anything about my typical daily food intake, but rather added PGX to what I was doing, drinking a protein shake w/ PGX in it (Slim Styles brand, Rich Mocha w/ a banana, ice cubes and a lot of water, blended up is my perfect breakfast!) and took up to 6 capsules w/ every meal and on ravenous days, even took 2 capsules w/ snacks. 6 capsules is equivent to 4 bowls of steel cut real oatmeal or 24 glasses of psyllium husk fiber! THAT will get your body functioning like early man! NO, you will not have diarrhea or be overly gasseous, but you may have some gas – that’s human when consuming the right amount of fiber – to lessen that, start slowly only having 2 capsules at a time!
I swear by PGX. I take it daily, my kids do (my daughter has lost 11 pounds since moving back home and having the PGX shake I make her EVERY morning!), I put it in the batter when baking pancakes, waffles, cookies, brownies – my parents take it! My mother is diabetic and the biggest skeptic on Earth – after reading the research on the effects on blood sugar stabilization – SHE takes it every day!

I am going to have to send my friend Dr. Oz some PGX and the science behind it. It would not surprise me if he gave it a thumbs up after learning about it, especially after reading his article. He said that soluable fiber is the #2 most important thing you can do to increase metabolism, lose weight, and there is NO better soluable fiber available than PGX! Makes sense to me!
