A new you in under an hour! WOW doesn’t that sound catchy? Made you read it didn’t I?
Well, sorry to disappoint anyone but this isn’t an article about a new miracle diet that can deliver the body of your dreams in an hour but rather about changing what really matters…YOU!
WHO you are, not what you look like! Because when you really get down to it, we are NOT our bodies; yet the soul that allows us to be the wonderfully unique characters that we are is reliant upon our body for life on this World. We need optimal health if we are to live optimally full lives but I think it’s a whole lot quicker and more effective to change the inside first, then it’s just a matter of time until the outside you is simply a reflection of the happy, whole and healthful person you have become inside!
Have you ever had a “pity party” or thought WHY ME!?!? I have those times too, more often than I am proud to admit, but I think what has made me such a resilient person is that I don’t stay at the party long and I don’t question too much…I just change what’s not working and forge ahead with confidence that it will all work out fine.
Faith that it will all turn out well is essential to making the leap from victim to victor!
Believe it or not, your attitude controls the outcome of most situations you will ever face. My latest dramas include the home that I have lived in for two years sold unexpectedly and the new owner wanted to close 45 days from when he bid on it. 45 days to move a housefull of 5-7 people (that’s another story) and their belongings?! And not knowing WHERE I am moving it/them to yet or how to pay for a house deposit, move utilities, arghhhhhh (30 days and counting)…I have 3 business trips in that time, a trip back to STL to see the parents and my daughter broke her arm and required surgery a week ago and it has thrown my world into chaos (not to mention home buyer/agent refused to delay inspection or move in date by even a day considering all of the above–and I was even told eviction was suggested!?)…seriously if ANYONE needs to change their stressed out negative attitude and bid adios to the pity party–it’s me!
But how?! Try these 5 easy steps to happiness and health:
1. Laugh! Nothing is as good for brightening your mood more than laughter! Surround yourself with your loved ones and friends and just laugh! Tell old stories, remember old friends and memories. You can’t help but feel better after a few hours of that!
2. Emerse yourself in positive messages! Did you know the average person is bombarded with 3000 marketing messages in a day?! That’s on T-shirts, designer purses, car decals, billboards, commercials, product placement…..man oh man your brain is basically over watered with mouth-watering, budget breaking and seeminly unabtainable perfection. Little wonder everyone feels so much unrest. You must counter those messages and balance out the desire for more more more with burning desire for more of what really will make a difference in your life! Quality NOT quantity and that applies to food, things, money, etc! Tonight the kids and I each drew a card out of my “Ask and it is Given” deck and read them aloud. We had as many “ohs and ahs” as a fireworks display as we discussed how the message resonated in our life and why. These wasn’t a conversation about asking for stuff but rather asking for peace and fulfillment. May just replace family Pictonary and Apples to Apples night! Positive thoughts can change you almost immediately–heck it’s 12:45 AM and I am up working because I WANT to, not because I have to!
3. Exercise! I view my exercise as an “I get to” not a “I have to” thing in life anymore. A few injuries which sidelined me and I couldn’t work out have served to make me so appreciative of being able to work out. I don’t get as often as I ideally want to but I LOVE going and that helps me get there more often. Actually going–one’s body is optimally healthful AND you get to realize your body’s endorphines. You can’t buy them, fake them, borrow them or wish, hope or dream them. Nope! You only get endorphines by working your body, moving and making muscle and getting oxygen flowing! Endorphines are one of the very best things about being human and so few people realize them often enough!
4. Love freely, deeply and dearly! I love my life, my friends, family and my amazing children. I am guilty like many working mothers & dads of having missed some moments with the kids because of always being busy, a million things on the to do list, but the time with them is precious and I am energized and filled with passion for living after just hanging out with them for an hour and really talking. I never realized how much they love me until the past few years. If you are like me, you went through the motions of raising these little people and suddenly they became adults overnight! What I think is great is that you get to see that maybe you didn’t do such a bad job raising them because they have grown into people you admire, respect and enjoy spending time with. All those diapers, late nights, concerts, plays, sleep overs…not so tiring looking back are they?! And if you are lucky enough to have a partner to love–cherish it, savor it, protect it and nuture it and above all appreciate it because it is rare and fragile but beautiful and a blessing.
5. You have many blessings. Count them one by one! Is your glass 1/2 full, 1/2 empty or running over it’s so full? If you don’t take inventory you won’t fully appreciate all that is right and good in your World. As my favorite old boss Joe Farrell (yes, you were and I am still sorry!)liked to say “If I were any better, I’d be bumping the top!” Even on a bad day, if you focus or atleast try to, on all that is RIGHT, the bad stuff seems so insignificant. At a loss of what to count? Go outside at night and look at the stars…the planets. It’s a big world and bigger universe; I’d say just the fact that you ARE is something to be thankful for and count as a blessing!
I will make you this promise, if you follow these tips every day that you WILL lose weight and a lot of it! Zen dieting…does it get better than that?! LOL
