I
am Julia Griggs Havey, wife, mother, church volunteer, room
mom, carpool driver, author, spokesperson, motivator……
a woman very much like you.
For years I struggled with overeating and weight gain, always
losing the battle. In
1989, I found myself pregnant and eating for two - too many
in my case. I gained 65 pounds in that pregnancy, 50 more
in the next one and managed to add on about 20 more pounds
with no such excuse. Like many women, the baby came out yet
the weight stayed behind (on my behind!). The weight took
over my personality and my life. My "fat " became a personality
trait rather than a physical condition. I was fat - not just
my body! After ten years of unsuccessful "dieting," I tried
a different way of losing weight that actually
worked for me, and surprisingly, it didn't cost me hundreds
of dollars in pre-packaged foods. I didn't endure liquid meals
and I wasn't hungry all the time. It allowed me to lose the
130+ pounds that consumed me for years, and as a result
I got control of my life. I became happier, more productive,
stronger and more creative than I ever knew myself capable.
How will that make a difference in your life, you may be asking.
What can I say to you, that you haven't already heard a thousand
times before?
What
I have to say to you is simple, yet powerful, when you truly
believe it! You are NOT your body! If you realize this and
start immediately to treat yourself with respect some pretty
amazing things will start to happen! The last
thing that I want to tell you is that starting 'tomorrow'
you are going on a diet, counting calories and grams of fat,
beginning a harsh exercise regime and depriving yourself of
all the things you like to eat. I won't tell you that. We
have all tried it and we know it doesn't last forever. You
'cheat,' and then binge. Lose the weight, only to gain it
back, and the cycle continues. What I will attempt to teach
you is an attitude of success and to provide you the tools
to rebuild your self-esteem. Tools that will carry you far
past this current 'self-improvement' project. I want you to
realize losing weight is no different than that much needed
home remodeling project. It needs to be planned, completed
and maintained. You don't want hammers and tools lying around
your house for years, and the projects left unfinished… Wouldn't
that drive you NUTS? So don't leave your needs lying around,
cluttering up your life! Solve the problem permanently!
Now is the time to roll up your sleeves, and tackle losing
the weight. What you will realize along the way, will make
you happy for who you are. Realizing the uniqueness of YOU,
will get you moving out of the improvement phase, and into
the high quality of life phase, which doesn't revolve around
what and when your next meal will be! You will easily maintain
your new healthy body, allowing yourself to reach all of your
